Orthodontic Rubber Bands
Orthodontic rubber bands are also used to align a bite on some patients. It is important for these patients to wear the rubber bands 24 hours per day. The only time they should remove the rubber bands is when eating or brushing. Aligning a bite is the longest and most important process of the orthodontic treatment, so cooperation wearing rubber bands is required. This will help to achieve the best possible result and will allow the braces to be removed sooner. When first given rubber bands, the dental assistant will teach how to wear them and gives an information sheet with a diagram on how to wear rubber bands. If for any reason patients run out of elastics, they should call the office and we will be happy to mail a pack to them.
Here are some examples of the ways patients may have been told to wear rubber bands.
